In keeping with the element of surprise on the dessert table, these three covered custard cups are moulded in the form of artichokes. The Chinese cup was clearly made for the European market and the modelling of the artichoke leaves is particularly subtle; interestingly, the enamelled floral decoration pays no heed to the trompe l’oeil nature of the object.
