In April, an exhibition of paintings by a well-known Japanese artist of Suiboku (water and ink) painting, Miss Hoozan Matsumoto, was held in the Asian Gallery. Miss Matsumoto, who has held over one hundred exhibitions in Japan, Europe and America visited Australia for the first time and was sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan and the Japan Foundation as aprt of their plan to foster cultural understanding between Australia and Japan. Two demonstrations of Suiboku painting by Miss Matsumoto were held in the Asian Gallery and both occasions were most successful and popular with the public.
