Illusion and Reality, an exhibition which illustrates recent directions in contemporary art is on show at the National Gallery until November 20. The display includes paintings, photographs, drawings and constructions by 42 artists from Europe, the Americas and Australia. The largest exhibit is Still Life Number 60 by the American artist Tom Wesselmann. It is a 310cm by 845cm display of six canvases and is valued at $60,000. The, selection for the exhibition was made by John Stringer at the request of the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council. The exhibition has already been seen in Canberra, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide. It was organised by the Australian National Gallery, Canberra, under the auspices of the Australian Gallery Directors’ Council.
