SENIOR CURATOR, FIRST NATIONS ART (IDENTIFIED POSITION)

VPS 6.1: $130,673 – $152,772 per annum + 11.5% Superannuation

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Senior Curator, First Nations Art, whose work exemplifies the NGV’s values, ambition and leadership. In this role, the Senior Curator will work closely with team members across the NGV to conceptualise, develop, and execute exhibitions, commissions, partnerships, publications, and programs and importantly, contribute to the strategic development of the NGV’s leading First Nations Art collection.

The Senior Curator will manage the First Nations Art curatorial team and demonstrate leadership qualities that align with organisational goals, including bringing new ideas and approaches to departmental and cross-departmental planning.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

You will bring a relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated senior experience in the field to:

  • Contribute to the development of the First Nations Art collection in alignment with the NGV Collections Strategy, and participate in the planning, research, development and coordination of relevant displays, exhibitions, projects and partnerships.
  • Lead and manage the First Nations curatorial team and its projects by drawing upon demonstrated people management experience.
  • Contribute to departmental and cross-departmental curatorial planning, bringing strategic planning experience to contribute new ideas and approaches to First Nations projects and achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Ensure the safekeeping of the First Nations Art collection, including following acquisition policies and procedures.
  • Perform a senior and strategic role in building, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and promote awareness and support of the NGV First Nations Art collection through engagement with donors, partners, community members and collaborators.

FUNDRAISING PROJECTS AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT

VPS 2.2: $66,063 per annum + 11.5% superannuation

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Fundraising Projects and Communications Assistant to support the development, delivery and success of Fundraising projects, appeals and campaigns.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Fundraising Projects & Communications Manager, you will be responsible for generating departmental communications and supporting day-to-day administration activities relating to campaigns and appeals. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Generating compelling and analytical copywriting for a variety of applications which aim to garner a financial return for the department including proposals, presentations, grant submissions, letters, speech notes, board reports, annual reports and promotional materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assisting with conducting and collating research, benchmarking, data analysis and trend awareness, crucial for the success of NGV campaigns and appeals.
  • Maintaining a robust procedure for tracking opportunities for support and their deadlines, coordinating funding proposals from development to submission stage, and assisting with engagement and evaluation activities when funds are awarded, with support from the Fundraising Projects & Communications Manager.

To be successful, you will have sound understanding of the principles of philanthropic fundraising, stakeholder management and campaign research, within a high-profile organisation. You can prepare basic letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language, organise information in a logical sequence and clearly explain information and listen to feedback. You regularly plan and track progress on work tasks, take an organised, methodical approach to work and address priority tasks first.

You demonstrate a flexible approach to work and an ability to meet changing priorities and demands and can attend out of hours functions as required.

Tertiary qualifications and previous experience with Tessitura would be advantageous.
